Learn or practice sketching using watercolour and a variety of pens and inks.
We'll look at a quick form of drawing using watercolours to enhance the final piece. A great new pastime for the summer months.

About the course
Sketching is a good practice for all ages and, surprise, it has nothing to do with the end result. It’s all about the process - a process that improves our general well-being.
A sketch may serve a number of purposes: it might record something that the artist sees, it might record or develop an idea for later use or it might be used as a quick way of graphically demonstrating an image, idea or principle.
Since this hobby requires hand-eye coordination, it improves the connection between your brain's left and right hemispheres. The more you sketch, the more they get connected - as a result, your concentration and coordination should improve.
We’ll look at ways to produce quick observational drawings of buildings, landscapes and people and develop those skills using pencil, markers, ink and watercolour. You’ll soon find yourself looking at things in new ways and starting to develop a style of your own.
We’ll be based around my art gallery in the central square of Monflanquin, but sketching mainly outside around the village (weather permitting).
There’s so much of interest hidden round every corner of the ancient streets of Monflanquin, it makes an ideal focus to get to grips with sketching.
The course is friendly, informal and, I hope, fun.
Most weeks there will be a short practical demonstration, followed by plenty of time to work at your own pace with as much help and guidance as you would like.
The main language is English, but if they can forgive my French, I welcome any French speakers.

Times and dates
The course will run on eight Tuesday afternoons from 13:30 to 16:30, starting on Tuesday 14th May 2024 and finishing on Tuesday 18th June 2024.
Materials
Some materials and equipment are included in the cost of the course.
Included in the price of the course is:
- An A5 landscape sketchbook to keep. This is a good size - not too small, yet easy to carry
- A waterbrush to keep
- A range of pens, ink and markers are available to use
- All tuition
- Refreshments
You should also bring:
- A small watercolour set. A set with between 8 and twelve colours is ideal - above all it needs to be portable.
Venue & cost
The venue will be Galerie JS in the centre of Monflanquin. There is ample free parking within a short walking distance.
To provide a high level of personal attention, the number of places is limited to 8 people.
The cost of the six week course is 130€ per person, payable at the first session and includes tuition, materials as above and refreshments.
