Learn or practice watercolour painting with Jon from Galerie JS.

Whether you want to learn to use watercolours, practice, improve your skills or gain confidence, I am sure this course will have something for you.

One afternoon a week for six weeks

About the course

This course is aimed at anyone wishing to paint in watercolours - complete beginners are most welcome.

Weather permitting, we'll be painting subjects outdoors in the village of Monflanquin. Most weeks there will be a short practical demonstration, followed by plenty of time to work at your own pace with as much help and guidance as you would like. I try to focus on the painting, keeping drawing to a minimum (although there will necessarily be some drawing involved).

Over the previous six years people have found the course helpful, relaxed and fun.

We'll practice various watercolour techniques through painting a range of different subjects. You’ll learn to paint buildings, landscapes, still life and architectural details.

We'll look at ways of achieving dramatic skies, realistic stone, trees and creating contrast with light and shade.

We'll also touch on the different types of paper, paint and brushes available and the differences between them.

The main language will be English, but if you can forgive my French, I would welcome any French speakers.

Some work from previous watercolour courses

Times and dates

The course will run on six Wednesday afternoons from 13:30 to 16:30, starting on Wednesday 17th May 2023 and finishing on Wednesday 21st June 2023.

Some people may already have watercolour paints and brushes they wish to use. I will provide a quality sheet of paper each week, more is available at cost price. A range of pencils, pens etc are also available to use.

I'll send a list of recommended materials (and suppliers) once your place on the course has been confirmed, should you wish to purchase materials.

The cost of the six week course is 110€ per person, payable at the first session and includes all tuition, paper/pens as mentined above and refreshments. We accept cash, cheques and most payment cards.
