About the course

The course is friendly, informal and, I hope, fun.

This course aims to provide a general understanding of acrylic painting, so is very suitable for beginners.

Acrylic paints are very versatile and in this course we'll look at a variety of techniques, to give participants a good breadth of experience. It's a great chance to try out various techniques.

As always, I assume no previous experience, making the course suitable for beginners and improvers alike.

You'll learn:

  • How to prepare a canvas
  • Colour mixing and blending
  • Composition
  • Using some acrylic mediums
  • Different ways of applying paint to achieve different effects
  • Contrast

Some landscape paintings by Jon:

Using acrylic paint can achieve results very similar to oil paint, but with easier handling, cleaning of brushes, quicker drying times and no unpleasant odours.

I hope everyone will take away paintings they can be proud of.

We'll work on several paintings together so you have plenty of time to practice but also have the chance to 'paint along' with a live demonstration, with as much help and guidance as you would like.

The main language is English, but if they can forgive my French, I welcome any French speakers.
