Painting with Acrylics. Winter 2020

Work in progress - week 1, winter 2019 Work in progress - week 1, winter 2019

One afternoon a week for eight weeks, aimed at beginners.

Learn the basics of working with acrylic paint and how I believe they are the simplest and most effective way for a beginner to learn how to paint successfully.

Through a series of paintings (as time allows) you’ll discover how to paint in a semi-realistic/impressionist style with me, professional artist Jon Sephton.

Using acrylic paint can achieve results very similar to oil paint, but with easier handling, cleaning of brushes, quicker drying times and no unpleasant odours.

Acrylic paints are very versatile, but I’ll be using them in a traditional style, not unlike oil painting. I focus on using and applying the paint, rather than drawing, so no need to worry if you feel you ‘can’t draw’.

I hope everyone will take away paintings they can be proud of. If you participated in last year’s successful course we will be using different subjects for this course.

The course is friendly, informal and, I hope, fun. We will work on the same subject together, mainly from photographs. It is anticipated that some paintings may take two or three sessions so there will be plenty of time to work at your own pace with as much help and guidance as you would like.

The main language is English, but if they can forgive my French, I welcome any French speakers.

Dates & Venue

The course will run for 8 weeks on Tuesday afternoons from 13:30 to 16:30 (with a short refreshment break), starting on the 11th of February 2020 and finishing on the 31st of March 2020.

The venue will be 29 rue Sainte-Marie, Monflanquin.

All materials and equipment is included in the cost of the course. Included in the price of the course is:

  • Studio quality acrylic paint. For economy, larger tubes are used from which you can take fresh paint each week.
  • Canvas boards / acrylic painting paper.
  • Set of brushes for each person (to keep)

To provide a high level of personal attention, the number of places is limited to 8 people. The cost of the eight week course will be 130€ per person, payable at the first session and includes tuition, all materials, tea/coffee and room hire.
