A 10 week course aimed at beginners and people wanting to improve their watercolour painting. Numbers are limited to a maximum of 8 people.
Some drawing skills would be helpful, but if you are a beginner, someone who has tried them a little before or looking to improve your skills, I hope you will find the course helpful, relaxed and fun.
We will look at how to plan a painting, apply layers of colour and see how paintings can be brought to life by using contrast and texture.
Most weeks there will be a short practical demonstration, followed by plenty of time to work at your own pace with as much help and guidance as you would like.
The main language will be English, but if you can forgive my French, I would welcome any French speakers.
Dates & Venue
The course will run for 10 weeks on a Monday morning from 09:30 to 12:30 with a short break for tea/coffee around 11:00. There are still places available in this class.
There is also the same course on a Tuesday morning from 09:30 to 12:30, but this is now fully booked.
The course will start on Monday 30/1/2017 and finish on Monday 03/04/17.
Unless outdoors, the venue will be Galerie JS (60 Rue St Pierre, Monflanquin). The gallery will be closed to the general public when the course is running. Tea and coffee will be provided, but if you prefer fruit/herbal teas etc, please bring whatever you prefer.
I've tried to keep materials to a minimum and realise that some people may already have or prefer buy their own materials. If you wish, I can provide a 'kit' of materials at cost price (and you'll save postage if I order a few sets at the same time).
Watercolour paints are generally manufactured as 'student' and 'artist' quality - the artist quality paints being superior in terms of purity and quality of the finished work. They are also considerably more expensive.
The 'kit' I would suggest would include a good quality watercolour book as quality paper is one of the most crucial items.
I would suggest student quality paint and brushes initially, although if you would like any adivce on artist quality materials please email me.
- 12 x half-pan box of Winsor & Newton 'Cotman' watercolours
- Spiral bound watercolour book approximately A4 size. 300g/m² - Album of 20+ sheets. More details once I have found stocks of a suitable book.
- Plastic mixing palette
- 'Da Vinci' Nova series brushes in sizes 1, 4 and 6
The total for this set is 45€ - if any items are available at a lower price when the order is placed I will reimburse this later.
You will also need a pencil and eraser.
To provide a good level of personal attention and to avoid overcrowding I am limiting the number of places to 8 people. The cost of the ten week course will be 100€ per person (equivalent to 10€ per week), payable in advance.
