Hi, we're Jon and Sue Sephton and together we run Galerie JS in Monflanquin.
Jon produces the art and Sue helps run the gallery and the administration that goes with it.
We met whist studying in Sunderland in 1985 and have been married now for 29 years.
We've had a house in Monflanquin since 2004 and recently made the decision to open our own gallery in this great place in south-west France.
Please call in and see us sometime - our opening hours are here >.
Jon paints in oils, watercolour and ink. His paintings are often inspired by the landscape and architecture of south-west France and his native North Yorkshire.
Jon studied art as a major part of his education degree at Sunderland Polytechnic (now Sunderland University) from 1982-86. It was here that he also formed a lifelong love of ceramics. After graduating, he taught for a while before making the decision to leave teaching and work as a graphic designer. Completing an HNC in graphic design at Newcastle College, he worked on design contracts and in advertising agencies before establishing a graphic design business of his own in his home town of Stokesley, North Yorkshire whislt continuing with drawing and painting.
Jon has exhibited in the UK and France and his works are in private collections in both countries.
Sue worked in training and Human Rescources after graduating from Sunderland Polytechnic. After completing her Masters degree, she took the post of Training Manager for Stockton Borough Council where she worked for 20 years.
Seeing an opportunity for a very different lifesyle in 2015, she now helps her husband Jon in the running of Galerie JS.
